Welcome to a new year at the Apartment Association, California Southern Cities. My name is Paul Bonner and, much to my pleasure, I am your newly-elected Board President for 2015. Please know that I am a third generation rental property owner whose property, Carbrier Apartments, is in the City of Long Beach. My focus is political advocacy and I will be your ardent advocate who will work tirelessly on your behalf.

As has become seemingly more and more common in recent years, with the coming of a new legislative session, rental property owners are again faced with legislative agendas at the local, state, and federal levels of government that very often affect your bottom line as business owners. Please be assured that the Apartment Association, California Southern Cities has a professional and dedicated staff to meet your every need. At the direction of your Board of Directors, Executive Director Johanna Cunningham, Lobbyist Ron Kingston and Apartment Association staff all extend their professional best to you, our members, in the passionate pursuit of protecting your rights as rental property owners.

When attending our January membership meeting, pick up a Member Committee Interest form asking for your involvement with committee work; complete it and return it to Association staff. Committees meet monthly, usually no more than an hour and Committee chairs report their work to the Board of Directors. Make a New Year’s resolution to become a committee member, get involved with your association, and help yourself become a more knowledgeable business owner. With knowledge comes power and the opportunity to make your business more profitable.

During 2015 look for class offerings in QuickBooks, Fair Housing, Sexual Harassment Prevention Training, CAM (Certified Apartment Manager), our increasingly popular Property Management 101 and 102 series of seminars, and other seminars as they are offered. Remember, too, our MSC/PSC Lunch with Southern Cities luncheon/seminars at the Long Beach Yacht Club.

For golfers and those who just want to have a good time on the links, AACSC offers a Golf Tournament at the SeaCliff Country Club (April). Our Summer Social (July) is an opportunity for all members to socialize and network with other business owners such as yourself, and then, of course, there is our Fall Trade Show and Expo at the Long Beach Convention Center (September).

Please join me, your Board of Directors, MSC/PSC members, AACSC members, community members, vendors, and Association staff in making 2015 the year to increase your knowledge and boost your business profits.
