Labor Day has come and gone and Summer is unofficially over, so put away your white shoes until next Memorial Day. It’s now time to get back to business. And we have a great way for you to get back in the swing of things.

Thursday, September 18th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Long Beach Convention Center, Hall C (Sports Arena entrance) is our 46th Annual Rental Housing Expo, and the admission is FREEEEE!

We will begin the morning with our annual Industry Awards Breakfast where we honor those in our profession who have excelled in their duties this past year. Manager of the Year, Maintenance Technician of the Year, Leasing Professional of the Year, and on and on. Come out a 7:00 a.m. and celebrate these wonderful professionals’ excellent achievements. Then tour the Expo with over 100 of our best vendors and service providers. Everything from contractors, lighting suppliers, plumbing services, insurance agents, lenders, retro-fitters, earthquake and emergency services providers, and many more—all here to provide you with the latest up-to-date products and services to help you with your rental properties.

Stay for our wide array of seminars featuring outstanding and long-time favorite speakers including:

• Dennis Block, Avoiding Legal Pitfalls/ The Evils of Rent Control.

• Michael Brennan, Kari Negri and Frankie Alvarez, Winning Evictions/ The Development of Management and Maintenance Policies and Procedures.

• Tony Watson, Taxation and Assets.

• Robert “Rusty” Tweed, Bill Exeter and Jim Cunningham, Investment Strategies.

• Frankie Alvarez, The Nuts and Bolts of Building a Better Team.

And this year we are honored and privileged to present a special luncheon featuring the noted earthquake expert from Cal Tech, Dr. Lucy Jones, USGS Seismologist and Earthquake Advisor, leading a panel of experts including fire chief, police, contractors, engineers, remediation specialists and medical per sonnel who will discuss what to do, preventative measures, who to contact and what NOT to do when the earthquake happens.

Along with living in “Earthquake Country” and needing to prepare for that eventuality, we are in the midst of a major drought. We all must do what we can to conserve water and help our residents to reduce their water usage. Please see “Be Drought Wise” provided by the Water Replenishment District on page 42. There is also an interesting article by Rusty Tweed on interest rates and investments that will pique your interest to come and hear him in person at the Expo.

We hope you had a wonderful Summer and look forward to seeing you at the Expo on September 18!
