After returning from the NAA Conference in Denver it occurred to me that the next three months for our Association are going to be a very busy time. So, get out your calendars and mark the following dates:

July 31st is our Membership Summer Social at the Hotel Maya.

  • I have heard from more than just a few of you that last year’s was a total hit. Everyone enjoyed the food, the conversation and, of course, the venue. We are still looking for sponsors for this great event and we look forward to seeing YOU (yes, all of you) at this 2nd Annual Summer Social event.

August 15th – I hope all of our management companies are nominating all the stars that help your properties be the BEST. This is the time of year to celebrate, nominate and honor our industry stars and August 15th is the deadline to receive your nominations.

September 18th
– AACSC 46th Annual Rental Housing Trade Show

  • Our theme this year is Rock ’n’ Roll and we mean that in a few different ways. We begin the day with our 19th Annual Rental Housing Industry Awards Breakfast at 7:00 a.m.
  • Trade Show runs 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You won’t want to miss all the NEW vendors, prizes, services and products being offered.
  • NEW THIS YEAR is the Earthquake Strategy Luncheon with the Experts. This very special lunch features Dr. Lucy Jones, “The Earthquake Lady.” She is a USGS Seismologist and Earthquake Advisor and will be our Keynote Speaker in the Seaside Ballroom. In addition to hearing from Dr. Jones, there will be a panel of experts who will walk us through a day in the life of an earth quake. You will leave feeling prepared and educated on what to do, preventative measures and things NOT to do when the earthquake happens.

I also want to acknowledge one of our sister Associations and let you know that the Apartment Association of Orange County is hosting their own golf tourna ment on August 11th. If you happen to love golf, as our members do, they will be at the Los Coyotes Golf Club. Nothing like a good day of golf!

On another front, I want to thank Elaine Hutchinson, Malcolm Bennett and Clive Graham for all their hard work. Of course, I would be remiss if I did not also acknowledge Ron Kingston, our lobbyist, and mem bers Lorrie Baldwin and Paul Bonner who are always willing to make visits and get involved. These appointments with our legislators are really making an impact and as Ron visits our representatives, AACSC is being recognized as a leader in our industry. But we could never make this impact without the dedication and involvement of our PAC Committee so please allow me a few lines to acknowledge the following members of the PAC Committee:

Ed Arnold
Evelyn Arnold (Co-chair)
Malcolm Bennett
Paul Bonner
Carol Chen
Terry Geiling
Clive Graham
Elaine Hutchinson (Co-chair)
Bob Luskin
Spencer Pabst
Leonardo Wilborn
Allen Wood

Finally, I want to thank Ed Arnold, Todd Brisco, Curt Knabe and Malcolm Bennett for attending the National Apartment Association’s Denver Confer ence. This was a great opportunity to learn about what NAA is up to and just how much they want to support our industry and how involved they are on behalf of us on the national level. While Todd and Ed renewed some old friendships, both Curt and Malcolm continued to establish themselves as leaders for AACSC and our industry. Look later this year as they roll out a national marketing campaign that will put a ”face” on our industry—it is sure to be a positive and enlightening campaign.

As for me, I continue to learn more and more about our industry every day so as always, thank you for allowing me the privilege of representing you.
