Time for Customer Service

Providing good customer service is necessary all year long. But now is a good time to brush up on those skills before the "end of summer" rush is here. Last month our magazine topic was about using this summer to enhance and prepare your property. This month let's work on preparing our selves and our staff members with enhanced interpersonal skills. There are several great articles and even a quiz about customer service in this magazine. As one article says, "good customer service is just common sense that is actually NOT very common."

Last month, the National Apartment Association held the annual Education Conference and Expo, this year for the first time in San Diego. This was their largest conference ever with over 6,500 people attending from all over the country. With the Keynote address given by Sir Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Group (Virgin Atlantic, et al.), the conference, seminars and trade show only got better. It was a very worthwhile experience.

This month your Association is holding our "Summer Social" instead of the general membership meeting. The "Beach Party" is at the Hotel Maya (in front of the Queen Mary) in Long Beach on Thursday, July 18, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Admission is $25 per person which includes parking, food, drink and live music. Come celebrate sum mer with your staff members, other property owners and managers, and our very supportive vendor members at this fun event.

Our annual Trade Show and Rental Housing Expo, along with our annual "Saluting Our Stars" Industry Awards Break fast, is fast approaching. Please reserve Thursday, September 12, to attend the seminars and show at the Long Beach Sports Arena/Convention Center, Hall C. Awards nomination forms are included in this magazine. Show your appreciation to your staff for all the hard work they do to keep your business going strong by nominating them for the various awards. They will appreciate your acknowledgement of their efforts, and that just may lead to their enhanced appreciation for your residents through better customer service.
